The cultural artifact that I am analyzing is the show “Kim Possible” from Disney Channel. This show aired from 2002 to 2007 and it was an animated action television series created by Bob Schooley and Mike McCorkle. I watched this show from the age 5 all the way to 10 years old.
For 5 years, I used to watch this show every day after I got home from school. Kim Possible was a show about a teenage girl named Kim Possible and her best friend Ron Unstoppable, that has a double life. She would be a normal teenager that goes to high school, confronts the average problem of a teenager trying to balance school and extracurricular activities while maintaining a social life. While at night she would fight crime and safe people from danger. I feel that this show impacted my life in a way that I saw Kim Possible as a role model. I’ve always been shy and not really outgoing, Kim was the total opposite of me, she was brave, outgoing, always fought for was it was right and she was her own hero. When she was in trouble, she never waited for the prince in shining armor. Kim Possible reinforced the idea that my parents always taught me since I was little, that women must be self-sufficient and not wait for a man to take care of them. As a 6-year-old girl that was very impressionable, I saw Kim Possible as the older sister figure that I never had because I am the oldest sibling and I think I that I always needed that reassurance that if Kim Possible was that confident I also can confident.
Going back to Kim Possible with my critically vigilant perspective I see the show in the same way now that I am 21 compared to when I was 6. I don’t think is realistic, but it doesn’t have the same equation of most Disney Princess movies that portray a damsel in distress that has to be rescued and that is why I liked and I still like Kim Possible as a good role model for little girls.

    Dinesse I love how you pick to do your cultural artifact on this show! It had a lot to do with my childhood also and I looked up to her as a role model. I like how you said she has big sister characteristics because it makes sense with all of the problems she faced. You also made a real good point on how Disney portrays her as someone who does not need to be saved.

      Yo whats up Dinesse I love this show still up to today! But kim was a trooper in this show always overcoming obstacles that she knew could lead to her demise, but did it anyways fights for whats right. There's nothing like a classic Disney series to influence positive agenda's.

Prompt 1 The cultural artifact that I will be identifying is the song and music video “I’m all about that Bass” by Meghan Trainor. I picked this music video because I feel that Meghan Trainor is one of few artists that celebrates diverse body types. She doesn’t fit the standards of beauty that the music industry has upon female artists and she embraces what makes her different. Prompt 2 The song and music video were released on June 30, 2014. The song was co-written by Meghan Trainor and Kevin Kadish. The main theme of the song is about self-acceptance and body positivity. The music video uses various techniques to attract the attention of the people who are listening and watching the music video. The tempo is the song is very fast which helps keep the rhythm of the song upbeat and catchy. The color scheme of the video is pastels but mainly pink and evokes a very fresh and youthful vibe.
